Final ban titanium dioxide

On 18.01.2022 the regulation EU 2022/63 was published: Prohibition of use and sale of titanium dioxide. The regulation comes into force on 07.02.2022. There is a six-month transition period (until 07.08.2022): foodstuffs using titanium dioxide may continue to be manufactured and placed on the market and subsequently sold until the end of the best-before date.

Updated proposal for maximum levels for vitamins and minerals in food supplements

Revised maximum levels for vitamins and minerals in food supplements for Germany

Maximum values for vitamins and minerals in food supplements and enriched food are not required by national or European law. Recommendations exist, e.g. in Austria or Belgium. The German BfR published recommendations in January 2018, see the following link.

60. DGGG congress: “micronutrients for women”

9th of october 2014, I moderated together with Prof. Joseph Neulen the symposium “micronutrients for women”. Gynecologists and medical press were lively interested in this topic. There is a low intake of vitamin D and folate in all periods. Additionally, gynecologists should look at the status of special nutrients depending the female age and situation.

EFSA approves health claims

EFSA approved infants health claims concerning iodine, iron and vitamin C. A claim for adults about fructooligosaccharides (FOS) from inulin and a reduction of postprandial glycaemic responses was authorised as well. More about the new opinions can be found www.efsa.europa.eu (january 2014).

Probiotics and constipation

3th of December 2013, I attended an interesting meeting about the new S2k guidelines concerning the treatment of constipation (Andresen V et al. 2013). Not onlyfibre but also specific probiotic strains are recommended to treat constipationwith a high consens, also for children and for pregnant women.

Conference at Bonn about eating and psyche

14th of May, I joined the conference from aid/Bonn about the influence of eating and psyche. There were interesting discussions. Above all, I was fascinated about the fact, that food ingredients can influence the activity of brain areas and that patients with eating disorders can learn to influence their brain activities (neurofeedback).

Since 14th of December 2012, the EU-regulation 432/2012 for article 13 claims came into force. Labelling ad advertising messages have to be adapted appropriate to the regulation.
